FAQ

How can jewellery be environmentally friendly ?

There are a number of ways to be environmentally friendly, I reuse my own scrap and buy eco-silver which is silver that has been reclaimed from surgical, engineering many other sources, meaning that no additional extraction was needed.

I buy fairtrade gold and ethically sourced stones, many of the war torn parts of the world are also home to some of the most beautiful stones, however I ensure that I only source from reputable suppliers who can gurantee provenance.

I use recycled packaging companies for the jewellery boxes and the sketch pads I use are all recycled paper.  I have swapped the chemicals that I use during fabrication for non hazardous, they might work more slowly, but that simply allows me time for another cup of tea.

How long does it take to get my piece of jewellery ?

This depends if it something that I have already made that you have seen - in which case I post twice a week first class, or a peice that is custom made in which case please allow 3 weeks.  If you have a tighter timescale please do let me know and I may be able to help.

What is a hallmark ?

A hallmark is designed to give peace of mind to the purchaser that the piece is what it is sold as, each maker has an individual sponsors mark unique to them, which is combined with a stamp showing what the metal is as well as the assay office, there may also be a date stamp as well.  I am registered with the Edinburgh assay office and all eligible items will be sent there.

Small items of sterling silver need not be hallmarked, so if your piece is less that 7.78g it may not be hallmarked.

The dealers notice describes the different marks.
